A few weeks ago AlwaysOn posted "The Lack of Women in Tech," it's an interesting read and includes a few articles that discuss some of the issues in the tech field about these challenges. Challenges that I have been fully aware of as a techie who speaks across the country about this issue. The article is a good read and has some resources you should check out.

4 Ways Non Profits Can Use the Buzz via @geoffliving @mashable

What Buzz offers is both a public and private group engagement, these examples used by Geoff, (yes, including my quote) depicts how some social media tools can be used depending on the needs of the organization or the type of social media campaign.

Haydon points out, it can be used for those that may not be as tech savvy and the process won't seem to foreign to them.

Buzz has had it's rough spots as danah boyd pointed out at her SXSW keynote, people still want the control and options for privacy. Defaulting public is a bad idea. So having social media tools that can offer public or private choices is the direction that I believe will be successful models of future social networks.

My snippet on Amplify is here! but you should check out the whole article on Mashable.

1 Gbps possible here? Google: Your new ISP?

As I have listened to multiple debates with ISPs targeting Google for their reasons of battling Net Neutrality, it seems they may have bigger problems on their hands. If true, 1 Gbps is available in the U.S. this debate will completely change.

I have always been struck by current ISPs saying that Net Neutrality will stifle innovation, but much of their proposals would potentially stifle the innovation on the other side of the cloud including apps like Twitter, Google, Facebook, Friendfeed and other creative app designs.

Would love to hear your take on this. This could really be a game changer if you are looking for one.

My Amplog: Price Of Google In China

Tech Crunch takes an interesting approach to this story. I don't think we know everything behind the decision to stop censorship in China. I think Siegler is right about one thing Google would have never been invited in the beginning if they hadn't agreed.

Doing the right thing even if it takes four years is still better than never doing the right thing but I am concerned about the political ramifications that could turn into a cyberwar.

Google is getting support from the White House and other companies except their biggest competitor (Microsoft, not surprised). However, if the text messaging six month blackout is currently restored this maybe an indication there are some light bulbs going on in China.
