My View on the Future of the Web

The Future of the Web is a project by Open Ampify, a series of innovators giving their views on what will be happening next. I was fortunate enough to get interviewed and give my point of view. If you haven't heard me speak about "Here Comes Everybody" Clay Shirky's book that is what I am referencing in the video here

Apple's Bans Go Way Too Far via @PCWorld what do you think?

Many already know that the iPhone and I have not been dating, and I don\'t have a love affair as many of my colleagues do with it. However, the reason is not because I hadn't tried it to see if I would like it because I had. It was sent to me in the early days by mistake when I purchased a different product. I was not impressed and I had issues with the closed platform it offered. I am a open platform fan.

The iPhone has only about 11million users out of 250 and has already begun to dictate what those users will get access to or what services will be available. Although, I would prefer limited regs it is these incidents that really make me re-think it.

Tech needs openness for innovation but if the choice is to control the users (the social side of tech) then they should re-think why they are building it in the first place. Ultimately, who are you building it for? The users or the platform?

My Amplog: Price Of Google In China

Tech Crunch takes an interesting approach to this story. I don't think we know everything behind the decision to stop censorship in China. I think Siegler is right about one thing Google would have never been invited in the beginning if they hadn't agreed.

Doing the right thing even if it takes four years is still better than never doing the right thing but I am concerned about the political ramifications that could turn into a cyberwar.

Google is getting support from the White House and other companies except their biggest competitor (Microsoft, not surprised). However, if the text messaging six month blackout is currently restored this maybe an indication there are some light bulbs going on in China.

Twitter Brings Shovels and a Mayor for a Snowed in Dad

Twitter can cause quite stir for many reasons but it's usually when it's to blame for flash mobs or because a planned by twitter snow ball fight on 14th and Ust in Washington D.C. resulted in a conflict with an off duty cop that people take notice.
